Graded against the same criteria as the test
On Norskprøven, two examiners read your text independently. They assess whether you answer the task (formidling) and four aspects of your language: text structure, spelling and punctuation, vocabulary and grammar. To be placed at a level, you have to reach that level on every criterion.
Norskpenn assesses your text against HK-dir’s public assessment form and its explanation, criterion by criterion. So you don’t only see a level: you see which criterion is holding you back, and what to do about it.
The grading is done by AI, not by an examiner. It gives a good picture of where you stand, but it can be wrong, and it can’t promise a result on the test. Read more about how the writing test is graded.

Questions
Are these the real Norskprøven tasks?
No. We wrote the tasks ourselves in the style of the test, with the same task types and about the same length. The real tasks are secret until the test.
Why are the tasks in Norwegian?
Because they are on the test. You read the task and write your answer in Norwegian, exactly as you will on the day. Only the explanations of your grading are in English, or in the language you choose.
Can I memorise the texts and use them on the test?
No, and you shouldn’t try. HK-dir treats memorised text as cheating, and it can get you banned from the test. Use the grading to learn what you get wrong, so you write better yourself.
How reliable is the level?
The level is an assessment made by AI against HK-dir’s criteria. It is a good picture of where you stand, but it isn’t a test result, and two gradings of the same text can differ slightly. Look at which criteria are lowest, and practise those.
What happens to my text?
Your text is sent to Anthropic (Claude) for grading and isn’t stored by us. Read more in the privacy notice.
Can I try before I buy?
Every grading costs us money, so we can’t offer free gradings. Instead we show a real grading of an example text, exactly as you would get it yourself: the level per criterion, corrections in the text, advice and a paragraph rewritten at a higher level.
When is the next Norskprøven?
The winter 2026 test runs from 30 November to 4 December. You register between 26 and 30 October, through the test centre in your municipality. See the dates at HK-dir (in Norwegian).
